The International Conference on Advances in Battery Fire Safety was held on 14–15 May 2026 at the İstanbul Technical University (ITU) Ayazağa Campus.

The conference brought together the latest research findings and practical applications in battery fire safety, including solid-state batteries, chemical additives, thermal management systems, and next-generation battery architectures.

Key topics covered during the conference included:

  • Fire behavior of lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and next-generation batteries
  • Thermal runaway mechanisms and propagation
  • Flame retardants, electrolytes, separators, and material design
  • Fire detection, suppression, and mitigation strategies
  • Safety of large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Fire safety in electric vehicles and mobility applications
  • Standards, regulations, and certification requirements in the European Union and internationally
  • Advanced diagnostics, modeling, and fire testing methods

During the fourth session on the first day of the conference, Dr. Gökhan Balık, a member of the TÜYAK Board of Directors, delivered a presentation as part of the Battery Fire Incidents and Management Panel.

The conference provided an important platform for researchers, industry professionals, fire safety experts, and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge on emerging battery technologies and address the evolving fire safety challenges associated with energy storage systems.
